Rum, rum, and more rum

No need to worry about all the rum being gone...you will get to taste as much as you'd like. After a tour of the distillery, they have all the different rum varieties out for you to sample. I believe there were 20+ bottles to try. All of the rums we sampled were delicious. They also let you try their highest proof rum, which is good but strong. We enjoyed trying the different flavors and bought several bottles on our way out. Definitely worth the trip. Our driver, Stormy Norman, gave us a wonderful tour of the island to and from the distillery. He also introduced us to guava cheese, which I wish I could eat all day every day.

Was a lovely half day tour of a rum distillery. We met the pick up van at a location near to where we were. Our driver Samuel was delightful and very friendly. Took maybe 45 minutes to get to the distillery from Gros Islet… little bit of a talk, and a lot of free-flowing rum tasting.
Two tours!

We did two tours with barefoot holidays. For both they communication before the tour was really good and we enjoyed both tours.

1. Rum tasting and tour - This was a nice morning out for us. The rum tour itself is pretty short but it’s nice to be able to taste the rums so you can see which ones you want to buy. There is about 20 rums laid out for you to try (as many as you want). We then went to Castries market on the way back which was good as we had a wanted to go. This trip is good if you’re looking to kill a few hours and the guide was really informative on the car journies.

2. Hotel Chocolat bean to bar - we had wanted to visit the hotel chocolat but had struggled to find tours offering it. We had a great day with our guide Stan who dropped us off and took us back to our hotel. It is a long and windy drive, but we knew this. You then get taught how to make chocolate which was an informative and fun activity and then have lunch… which was large! You get tokens to choose a main and two sides and then get a dessert after. Everything has a chocolate theme so it’s really interesting. My only regret is I had a large breakfast so struggled!! The grounds of hotel Rabot are amazing and I would have loved the opportunity to explore it further

I would recommend using barefoot holidays for your excursions while in St Lucia!
Great trip and hosts.

Wayne and Stan were fabulous entertainers and knowledgeable.
The rum tasting tour was very interesting and you could try as many rums as you wanted about 25 in all.
A bit short

Although the ride to and from the distillery was quite long, the actual time spent on-site was very short.
I don't know whether it is because of Covid restrictions the factory might still have implemented, but I can't help feel we were rushed into see the main machines that do the rum production coupled with a brief "This is how we make rum" presentation before being sat to watch a DVD about the distillary and it's history.
Following that, there were loads of rums/products to taste which was great as I found a new favourite - The Admiral HMS Oak super smooth rum, of which I went on to buy several bottles of. Normally £80 per bottle in the UK, it was about £20 in St Lucia.
I organised this trip through JoJo's as I wanted a private trip. Worth it.
